Dungeons and Dragons Project the World of Selve Short History

A Short History On the World of Selve

Selve is a small planet that has many origin myths but not even the Gods know how it came to be. The Gods themselves found found the planet by accident, noting that there was no other gods to fight with for this little planet. The planet was almost lifeless except for some small animals and flora so this planet was their sandbox. The creation of man and other higher beings was done the various gods, with Hera being the main creator of humans. Man started in desserts and tropics where the Lungite reside. For many years while man stagnated in his early nomadic existence elves and other races evolved quickly with and without the help of the gods. The other races were at a couple of thousand of years ahead of humans. Hera herself threatened the other gods to leave the nomadic humans alone, she wanted her children to create their own destiny in the world without godly interventions.

About the time when man was starting to create some of his own small civilizations, elves and orcs ruled most of Selve in a Medieval like setting. Things between the elves and orcs had always been harsh but between man becoming more advanced, populations of both sides getting too big for their boundaries, and encroachment on each others land led to war.

War between the elves and orcs with various allies became known as the Great War. During the war both sides used humans in different ways. Elves helped human advance a little to protect their own lands from raids by orcs and their allies. Plus some human groups allied themselves with the elves because they feared the orcs. Orcs on the other hand mainly used humans as slaves or fodder. About midpoint of the war both orcs and elves started to come down with a weird illness later described as “Black Mucus.” “Black Mucus” was a disease created by the god Hera out of anger at orcs and elves for fiddling with mankind. Hera was given the idea of “black mucs” by the demon Apophis. Unknown to Hera, Apophis had tricked her to creating a lethal disease he told her it would only weaken the power of elves and orcs he didn’t state how. Out of anger for what he had done Hera forced Apophis into an unending battle with the three head creature called Cerberus. Between the disease and the war both the elves and orcs populations receded back into their home territories. Because of the power vacuum left behind and advanced learned by humans they quickly filled the void. Hera was pleased that her people that they had became a powerful species.
